Farmers are behind and, in some cases, way behind normal planting. The problem is wet weather that has made the fields too muddy for planting.
Agriculture.com says:
Missouri farmers are usually two-thirds of the way through their
planting by this week. But, as of Sunday, farmers there have eight
percent of the crop in the ground. Planting progress is also around
one-third or less of the average pace in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,
Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
This is the kind of information that weathercasters, for example, should know in order to better speak the language of viewers who are affected by these issues.
