Adam Nagourney hoped to talk to New Hampshire Secretary of State William M. Gardner, but man who answered the phone declined to comment and told Nagourney, "Do not call me here." (The reporter put that in his story.) A Times editors' note says: "The reporter assumed he had reached the correct Bill Gardner, who lives in Manchester, but had actually called a Bill Gardner who lives in Rochester."
