"None of us wants to hear that, but that's a harsh reality [for newspapers]," says George Riggs, who heads all of MediaNews Group's Northern California newspapers. Concerns are widespread that MediaNews and its owner, Dean Singleton, will cut more Bay Area newsroom jobs, but Riggs tells John Simerman the company will look elsewhere for savings. "The issue in getting efficient is not to try to cut the heart out of the editorial product."
