Santa Barbara News-Press publisher Wendy McCaw objected to SPJ's Ethics in Journalism Award to nine journalists who resigned from her newspaper. "There is more to this than has been reported, and leads one to wonder what personality or other issues are involved," she told SPJ. An SP rep says the organization didn't believe McCaw's argument was germane to the ethical issues. "[She] went off on tangents and general matters we weren't necessarily concerned with."
