Dean Baquet is defying Tribune and refusing to make cuts that the paper's owner requested. Staffers tell Katharine Q. Seelye that Baquet's stance, with support from publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson, has given the newsroom a morale boost. "Johnson comes out from Chicago and goes native,” says columnist Steve Lopez.
