Couric makes network news ratings race more competitive

New York Times
Katie Couric drew an average of 7.9 million viewers each night last week, according to Nielsen's preliminary figures. Her CBS newscast beat "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" by an average of only about 70,000 viewers each night -- and topped "World News with Charles Gibson�" on ABC by about 370,000, reports Jacques Steinberg.
