Steve Outing asked newspaper new-media bosses and workers to discuss what they see as their companies' flaws. Several said that papers need to put online editors in charge of the entire news operation. Outing summarizes their thinking: "Print-hardened top editors don't and perhaps can't fully appreciate the extent of changes that must be made within newspaper companies, so it's time for online editors to step into those top positions."
