A 19th century photo of a dead horse that appears in the Sheboygan Press' 2007 calendar remains a mystery. The paper received dozens of calls and e-mails about the picture after it appeared on Romenesko and other websites. One person said: "I don't have any historical information about the photo in question, but I am dismayed at the
national attention it has received. It's my opinion that such scrutiny equates to flogging an expired equine mammal. Thank you."
