Nine St. Paul Pioneer Press business department employees were
laid off this week, and, according to the Newspaper Guild, they received no warning. "In the past, the company has given employees who are being laid off 14 days' notice," says a Guild bullletin. "The Guild has pointed out this longstanding practice to the Human Resources department. It was dismissed as a 'courtesy' that is not required."
