Known for his cold demeanor and ruthless approach to cost-cutting, former Conrad Black associate David Radler was an unpopular figure among employees in Black's media empire, notes Susan Chandler. Radler, who will be testifying against Black, once claimed his contribution to journalism was "the three-man newsroom -- and two of them sell ads." Radler reduced the size of the Sun-Times staff, moved the paper's editorial position to the far right and shut off the building's escalator to reduce electricity costs.
