The most recent Dare to Ask column raised the question: Why must Filipinos eat so loudly? Other columns have considered whether Japanese are obsessed with being in photos; why certain foods such as asparagus make urine smell funny; and whether blacks potty train children differently than whites. Readers have complained, but "Ask" columnist Phillip Milano says: "I am willing to take the risk of momentarily offending others' sensibilities if it means I can address an unspoken myth or incorrect perception.
