On March 26, the Wall Street Journal ran a
story about violence at black funeral parlors. On April 2, the Plain Dealer published a similar
piece. "I heard from a couple of readers who had seen the Journal piece and wondered about the ethics of adapting the idea for our own story," writes PD ombud
Ted Diadiun. "It is standard practice -- a reader service, in fact -- for newspapers to take good ideas from other media sources and 'localize' them in one's own. ...But employing a bit more transparency when this happens is worth our consideration." ||
