Revealing where a news organization obtains facts and interviews is crucial
to journalistic credibility, said Bob Steele, the Nelson Poynter Scholar for
Journalism Values at the Poynter Institute, a media think tank in Florida.
"It's a matter of accountability," Steele said. "We should be very clear as
to where certain material comes from because that connects to our independence.
And independence is a linchpin principle for journalists."
