n its "State of the News Media 2008" report, at the Project for Excellence in Journalism, Rick Edmonds of the Poynter Institute states, "Newspapers continued their weak economic performance in 2007. Advertising revenues fell by an average of about 7%. Earnings were down again, slightly more than 10% measured by earnings per share at public companies. Stock prices for public companies plunged for a third straight year, losing 42% of value cumulatively over the three years".
