Flip-flops are part of my culture as a Floridian. Yet some high school dress codes forbid them -- in my junior year of high school they were banned. With enough protesting, my senior year marked flip flops' return, back by popular demand.
Instead of writing another typical article on the dress code, try this alternative story form.
Create a visual model of the dress code regulations.
Start with a photo of a student (not a stick figure, like mine!). Draw a line toward the foot and write the dress code regulations for shoes. Do the same for shirts, skirts, shorts, caps and, yes, even cell phones (allowed or banned?).
I made a quick sketch in Microsoft's Paint program to help you visualize the idea, but this is just the beginning. Grab a cup of coffee, sit down with your favorite design software and your school dress code and find your inner artist. You'll inform your fellow students in the process.
